Lost & Found in a Winter Wonderland

My oh my, where has the time gone? The last time I posted we had just opened this fabulous shop and now we are getting ready for Christmas!!! We have done so well, with lots of happy customers going down memory lane and admiring our stock.
You must pop in for some gorgeous gift and decoration ideas - we've gone for a 'rural winter' theme, with some chirpy robins, blue tits, owls, deer, as well as more traditional Nordic inspired jingle bells, and patterned baubles.

Write these dates down in your diary: 21 & 22 December, because we are having a Vintage Christmas Fair at The Station.
In Lost and Found you will receive 15% discount on your purchases.  We are also pleased to welcome a selection of craftspeople to the platform.  There will be a craft table for children to make a traditional decoration, along with a Lucky Dip box.
More on those plans later.... this L&F lass will be back soon!!!!

We are open!!!

Well, what a wonderful first week it has been here at Lost & Found! A big thank you to everyone who helped us get to this point and to everyone who's made such lovely donations.
Our opening day event was lots of fun with the Gramophone DJ's setting the tone playing some beautiful 1940's records. It was lovely to see the cast of The Diary of Ann Frank, RADS who came down in 1940's outfits. Vintage Tinsel did some brilliant up do's as you can see from the photos, it was delightful to see young girls running around The Station showing off their victory rolls!   The shop was full to the brim with lots of happy customers having a good rummage through all our bits and bobs, vintage linens were very popular as were our beautiful picnic blankets and railway memorabilia.
Over our first week we have lots more wonderful donations, some items are just getting taken out of their bags, priced, put on display and getting sold straight away. Interesting donations so far have been an old fashioned projector and screen, a Rolls Razor sharpener, vintage golf club, Bakelite View Masters, little Dinkie hairclips, fabulous vintage hats-very popular and some beautiful books. One of my favourites is pictured below which will certainly come in handy if you'd like to learn the 'saucy samba', 'the gay cha-cha-cha' or a 'quick twinkle' , all this knowledge for a bargain £4 :-)
I'm sure you will all be well aware, being the good sons and daughters you are, that it's Mothers Day tomorrow, we will be open 10-5pm so call in for that last minute gift or bring mummy along so she can pick her own treat. If you whisper " I love my mum' to any of our sales team this weekend you can have a 10% discount on your purchases.

Memories discovered!

Soooo we are almost, almost ready to open the doors. Our launch day on Saturday is going to be very special. We have the fabulous Gramophone DJs playing vintage classics between 11am and 2pm and also Vintage Tinsel coming along to do some 1940s style up-do's for the ladies. There will be sweets treats, giveaways, competitions and goody bags for our first ten customers! We also have (weather pending) two Austin Seven Tourers coming, it's all coming together :-)
Everyone is being very kind with their donations and we have discovered some lovely things hidden in the pages of old books. I discovered not one but two four leaf clovers in an old Agatha Christie hardback, I think that's definitely a good luck symbol for the shop and me! Even more intriguing is a letter from 1943 found in a copy of Charlotte Bronte's Villette from a young soldier called Bob ( no Blackadder references please ;-) )  talking about his life in the army. He'd been in the army for two years and claims to have spent most of his time so far going to the cinema, dancing and flirting! We hope the rest of his time as a soldier was so peaceful!   We're going to try to do a bit of research and perhaps find out what did happen to him!
Hope you can all make it to the launch, we're all really looking forward to showing off all our lovely bits and bobs. Bye for now LostandFoundLass xoxoxo

Friday 14 March 2014

Things are taking shape here.  Although laced with mild amounts of hysteria as opening day (Sat 22nd 11am - don't forget!) approaches, we're actually starting to stock the shelves.

It's difficult not to get distracted as we have to keep looking at all the lovely things in much more detail - just to make sure they are all as mouth-wateringly gorgeous as we thought they were.

More updates soon.

Lost & Found Lass xoxo

More lovely donations

Afternoon everyone! I am enjoying a lovely cup of tea and a naughty slice of millionaires shortbread from our resident artisan bakers The Angels Share. Today we've taken delivery of some beautiful baskets and gardening tools, getting ready to inspire you all to get out there in the Springtime and grow your own.
The painters are now in and our shop is changing colour from the old cream and red of the reception, to three (not 50!) shades of grey, it's looking gorgeous.
We've also had a brilliant donation today of a beautiful vintage bone china tea set with little pink roses on and gold trim, take a look, they're soooooo pretty :-)  Keep your donations coming, they're all gratefully received and very kind of you all. Bye for now LostandFoundLass xoxox

More developments

So, this week sees us inch even closer to opening with our counter being built and our new floor being laid. We all had to fight the temptation to not write our names in the wet concrete before the lino went down-it was tough ;-)  We're looking very industrial at the moment and that theme will be continued with the lighting that should be going in on Monday, fingers crossed!    The whole look will soon start to come together super fast, think 60 minute make over, but far more classy and spread out over 3 weeks, and as soon as that happens we will be able to confirm our grand opening date. We're hoping for mid-March.
We've ordered some lovely new stock of gorgeous lunch boxes and picnic blankets, being very optimistic with hope in our hearts that it will be spring time soon and that the sun will shine for us. Although, it has been a beautiful day today with the sun streaming in through The Station's glass roof, so it must be on the way.
We've had a few lovely items donated so far and vintage is definitely back in fashion with Hollywood star Gillian Anderson wearing the vintage look very well at the BAFTAs this week, wearing a 1949 Balmain vintage gown.
In the meantime, we are still appealing for stock, Sundays are a great day for having a clear out at home, so if you've got a box of bits and bobs for us (think 40's,50's,60's), please do drop it into The Station, you're donations will all go to help the future of the building. Have a wonderful weekend , bye for now LostandFoundLass xoxoxo

Work begins!!

Sooooooo our very exciting new project at The Station, Richmond has begun! In March 2014, we will be opening 'Lost and Found' the Station's very own Vintage Lifestyle shop.
It will feature a mixture of new goods and donated stock with a very vintage and retro theme to it. We are in the process of converting our reception area with drilling and hammering going on all around me as I type. I will be regularly posting updates and photos as Lost and Found begins to come together to keep you all up to date with the latest developments. I will also be posting pictures of any unusual, interesting donated items that will be on sale in the shop.  We are appealing for donations of any vintage and retro items, hats, coats, gloves, handbags, costume jewellery, small pieces of furniture or railway related items. All profits from the shop will contribute to the future of our lovely Richmond Station.  Bye,bye for now LostandFoundLass xx
